Last hours in Alaska

We have made it through security and are awaiting our flight to Seattle!

Yesterday we had an incredible day trip to Seward! Saw lots of wildlife, glaciers, and beautiful mountains!

We saw puffins, sea otters, sea lions, tons of birds, humpback whales, moose, bear, and killer whales! Here's the best picture we got for the blog!

There were about 6 killer whales that swim right under our boat! It was insane!

Here are some other pretty pictures taken from the day trip.

We stopped at Fox Island for lunch! It was delicious!

Our group picture in Seward with the train and mountains!

It was a very memorable day.

This morning we went to church with our host family and then headed to the airport. It's been a phenomenal trip and we couldn't have asked for better people to stay with the entire time.

Continue praying for safe travels as we make our way back to the lower 48 and head down to Alabama! We will update when we have landed at each stop along the way.

Love you guys so much and we sure hope you have enjoyed the blog!

Blog Time!!!

Sorry for the delay! We have been going going going!

Updates:

Parsonage! Check out how much work these guys got done! They're so awesome!

Our Tim worked so hard! And he always remembered to take his vitamins!

We were extremely sad, some more than others, to leave our new community. After a week all of these people become like family!

"Airport" picture heading out.

We made it back to Anchorage and filled our mini-van to the brim. Literally.

We went to eat at a yearly stop, the Sourdough Mining Co. and got to go across the street for souvenirs at Alaska Wildberry Products!

We got to see a reindeer!

Here is a pretty view for you southerners! Think about walking out of your Walmart and seeing this view! It was crazy!

Now we are headed on Alaska Railroads to Seward, AK to go on a boat into Resurrection Bay and eat on an island!

Keep praying for safety friends! Love you guys! Next blog tomorrow!

Side Note: Our flight out of Anchorage leaves at 3:45 PM and we will return to Montgomery around 10:35 AM Monday morning!

The Finally

VBS has come to an end. It is so sad to think it might be an entire year before we see these kiddos again, or ever. BUT, we are NOT fixing to get all sappy. Today is a glorious day!

Day 5 went great! We prepared everyone for Parent's Night and made some super legit bracelets! Parent's Night was incredible! We love seeing all the parents come support their children! The children also have the brightest joy when showing off their dance moves and getting all of their crafts in front of the group.

We were all super excited about some of the old school planes that were in town today!!! It was so cool seeing all of these planes and seeing some of our friends and the community enjoy it.

This red plane brought a Holstein cow, milk cow, out to our village in the 40's for a family who had adopted a baby and had no milk for it! Fun fact of the day!

Here are some old looking fighter-ish planes. Not 100% sure what they are for but they are in the plane show! Reminded us of Captain America.

Good ole Tim out in front of one of the planes!

To complete the night Kayla and Jenna ran out of gas on the way to their host home! Kayla was trying to protect herself from the insane, swarming mosquitos. Thankfully, a kind lady let them use her phone and they figured out their problem!

Today went great. Very enjoyable day. We are working on the parsonage a little bit more in the morning so we will put the final Parsonage picture up tomorrow when we get back in Anchorage!

So prayers for tomorrow:
-Steady work on the parsonage
-Safe traveling, flight leaves at 2:15
-For peace while leaving. Leaving this place is one of the hardest thing some of our team members   have to do.

Our next blog will be from Anchorage!

Day 4.... I think.

Today is day 4. Right?  Everything is starting to run together!! We are all starting to get a little tired, but it is a good, been working hard, kind of tired.

VBS was great today!! Music, bible story, rec, and craft! The whole nine yards was wonderful. All of the kids are starting to get in the routine of how things are done!

Bike Rodeo went GREAT today!! We had 6 participants! Thankfully, Walmart in Anchorage donated a few bikes for us to give to our winners! We also took a bike to give to our participant who scored the lowest. We wanted the kids to understand that we have been granted grace and so we used the rodeo as an example of that wonderful grace we've been given!

Tonight for dinner we went to the DNR Picnic! It was so incredible! Best hamburgers ever, watermelon, and ice cream!! Oh, we got to hang out with the community and see cool helicopters too!! It was just a great time to chill and just feel like a true part of the community.

Kids could go into the helicopters and see all the fire fighters gear!!

Even Kayla got in on the action!

We had such a great time tonight!

Tomorrow be praying for our final day of VBS and our Parent's Night!! We are excited to get to show off all our kids have learned. Tomorrows Verse of the Day is Psalm 145:3!

Get excited! The parsonage is looking super AWESOME!!!! Tim has worked super hard on it! We will get a picture up here tomorrow night of all the work he has done with a few other men of the church.

Have a great Thursday!

Day 3!!!

Hello Folks!!

To start today's blog let us ask a trivia question!

On what week did it reach the hottest temperature's for our village in Alaska and for the longest number of days remain in the 90's?

Answer: THIS WEEK!!!!

It has been in the 90's most of the week during the day and getting about 80 at night. Yes, it is very sad to be so hot, especially when we were looking forward to some cool temperatures. HOWEVER, I feel as if God is reminding us we did not come here for the weather, we came here to share His name.

Day 3 went AWESOME!! We had some new kiddos for the older and younger VBS. They just continue to steal our hearts as the hours tick on. We got a lot of shingles put on the parsonage! It is exciting to see each member of our team step out and help Tim work on the parsonage.

Sad, but exciting news about the Bike Rodeo. We didn't have any kids come, but we got to hangout with some of our already friends on the play ground and have good bonding time with them! We also met the new superintendent for the school system! We are super pumped about this!

The funny thing is that at 9 o'clock we had someone interested in the Bike Rodeo come up! So we rescheduled it for 4:30 on Wednesday! We are going to let our older VBS kids have a try at too!

We didn't have any pictures to share today, we were all too busy working!

Here is Charlene though sporting her Charlie's BBQ shirt!!!

Charlene and Christie rocked out their Chick-fil-a shirts today!!

The team has gotten so close over the past few days!! It makes the trip worthwhile when you can rely on your team to help you when needed!

To end today all the ladies shared some strawberry ice cream at Ray and Sally's! It was so great to sit and fellowship with them and learn about their AWESOME bread maker!

Side note: Sally is Alaska's Volunteer of the Year! What, What!

Tomorrow we have VBS Day 4, Bike Rodeo, and we get to go to the DNR Community Picnic for dinner! So pumped! The Verse of the Day for tomorrow is 1 Timothy 4:12.

Have a GREAT Wednesday everyone!!

Bush Alaska Missions

Day 2!!

INCREDIBLE!!!

We doubled in size for both young and older kids! God is allowing us to plant some incredible seeds. VBS went great today. We learned a new song and sang a few of the older ones. As long as these children get to jump around and be loud, they are happy! Bible story went great and we are filling up our fish scales (explanation below)!! Rec was hot outside, but thankfully we got to come in and cool off with Kool-Aid and snacks right before craft where we made cross necklaces!

So the fish scales. We cut out a lot of white fish to put in our waterfall and as the kids answer questions, listen well, participate, and be awesome we give them a fish scale (orange spray painted cotton balls) to tape to their fish. By the end of the week we will learn that without Jesus and knowledge of Jesus we are empty and bare like our fish were before we started learning about Jesus and adding scales to them! Nifty, huh?

To start off today, Kayla and Jenna got to head to KSKO 870 AM Radio's station and be on air to advertise our VBS and Bike Rodeo!! Neither had been on the radio before today, but had a blast!!

The parsonage is coming along great! Tim and some of the guys from the church have been helping tremendously and doing an incredible job!

View of the church and parsonage!

Tonight we were hosted by these incredible people!! We enjoyed a ride on the river, grilled hotdogs, and an incredible time of fellowship!

This is our home away from home from the river! After spending time in this village, it becomes like a second home!

Tomorrow we have Day 3 of VBS and our Bike Rodeo! Certainly be praying for both and that God be glorified. Our Verse of the Day tomorrow is 1 John 4:11!

Thanks for the comments!! It makes us happy to hear all is well!

Day 1!!!!

Perfect first day. Enough said. We could end on that note to describe today to you all. Church was incredible! Christie lead the church in a few songs of worship and Bro. Mike brought a great message to the congregation! Afterwards, we had a quick lunch and began VBS!!

As promised, a few pictures of our set up!

As the kiddos came in, they would color in the letters for our Verse of the Day!

Here are some of our precious angels at Bible Story time!

Our faithful constructor Tim has done some hard work today! Getting those shingles on!

.

Today was a wonderful start to VBS. We are expecting several more kids tomorrow, since today was Father's Day everything was a little slower. The entire team did an incredible job of stepping in when needed and making an impact.

Speaking of Father's Day....

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DAD'S!!!!!!!!!

You guys rock and we are so thankful for you.

It is incredible to see all of the kids growing up and learning so much. Kayla, Jenna, and Mike have had an incredible time rekindling friendships and Tim, Charlene, and Christie have enjoyed getting to meet all of our Alaska friends.

We also had a potluck dinner tonight at the church! Tons of delicious food and marvelous company. Nothing beats this communities hospitality.  It's almost like a nugget of the south in the most northern state!

Tomorrow we have Day 2 of VBS. The key verse is Romans 5:8 if you would like to follow along!

Gee Gee says a BIG Happy Birthday to Clay!!

Jenna says confirmation to all of her family and friends! You should know what she's talking about.

Lastly, the entire team says Thank You to all who are praying for us and supporting us. God did great things today. We may be in a valley surrounded by mountains, but let us tell you that there is LIFE in the valley!

Have a GREAT Monday friends!

Blessings,
Bush Alaska Missions

Who is ready for VBS?

 WE SURE ARE!!!!!

We landed right on time this afternoon, made it to our host homes, and then began the decorating process!

This years VBS is an "Around the World" theme. So of course we decorated our favorite spots, the beach and the mountains! We have a BEAUTIFUL waterfall and MARVELOUS mountains to entertain our kiddos eyes while hearing all about Jesus.

However, we do have some entertaining pictures for YOUR eyes too!

Here is a picture of Mt McKinley! We saw it on our flight this afternoon. It was breathtaking to see something we see on TV in person and know that we know who created it.

Side note: It's extremely rare to see Mt McKinley at full scale. Thankfully, the clouds didn't block our view today!

Here is the Kuskokwim river we flew over. Just to give you insight of how winding the river is and how green it is up here! Beautiful. Beautiful.

There are several more pictures to come, but we have had a full day! Check back tomorrow night, or probably Monday morning for you central time folks, for pictures of our decorations and trip so far.

Lastly, be praying for the church service in the morning as the team leads the community in Worship and the Word. VBS starts tomorrow at 1! Pray for clear skies, lots of children, and Jesus to be revealed.

Psalm 139:1 is tomorrow's Bible Verse if you would like to join in on the VBS fun.

Thank you all so much for your continued support and prayer!

Big shout out to Jane and Jerry for hosting us tonight! They are such a blessing!

Just a heads up starting tomorrow at 12 pm there will only be 1 post a day in the evenings! Internet will be limited. We just didn't want all of you guys freaking out on us!

This goes out to Jenna's mom, Tracy! Our favorite books represented in our host home tonight!

Lastly, but not least, Mike kicked back after a long day of traveling! (Note the size of the chair)
